THE BETS ON THE HIGHEST SCORING TEAMS
This world cup has been the most anticipated in the history of the competition. Being the first world cup tournament on African soil, it is the one that is most likely to have the first black American president in attendance- if he confirms of course. The anticipation is getting higher and higher as the day gets closer, and so are the betting enthusiasts. There have been all kinds of bets made on the team that will win the golden trophy; the teams that will clash at the finals, the teams that will make it to the semis and the quarter finals, the golden boot winner and many other bets. One of the most interesting bets is the team with the highest number of goals. Normally, a team with the highest number of goals scored will most likely be the team that goes far in the world cup as they have a lot of matches to play and have a lot more time in their hands to score a goal or two for their countries.
The criteria for making these bets are the same that were used to select Brazil and Spain as the final two at the last world cup final. You have to look at past performances and the players in the respective teams and their playing CV’s. Asking someone to guess the top scoring teams in the world cup is like asking them which team is going to win or which two teams are going to be in the world cup final. Spain, England, Brazil Argentina and the Netherlands in that order are the top teams bet to be the highest scorers.
This year, the stars are looking up for the Spanish team. Aside from having a top scorer whom every striker is going to emulate in their team, this euro 2008 title holder has a good group; one that will not contend its supremacy in football. Given the great height that this team has reached in football, the other three teams will have to battle it out themselves for the second spot as the first has already gone to Spain. Spain will most likely walk over the teams in its group and hopefully draw with Brazil, Portugal or Ivory Coast (let’s hope for surprises in this group) in that order. The other top scorer is England which should be able to defeat all the three in its group and face off with Germany or Ghana.
